The tool is built for finished MP4 videos that need better loudness, cleaner playback, and more consistent audio across phones, earbuds, laptops, social platforms, and video websites.

1. Upload a Valid MP4 File

The process starts when you upload an MP4 video file. LUFS Optimizer currently accepts MP4 video files only. The upload limit is 500 MB, and videos must be 60 minutes or shorter.

These limits help keep processing reliable and protect the service from extremely large jobs that could slow down the server or fail during processing.

2. File Validation

LUFS Optimizer does more than check whether a filename ends in .mp4. The system verifies that the upload is actually a valid MP4 video file before it is processed.

This helps reject non-video files, renamed fake MP4 files, unsupported uploads, oversized files, and videos that are longer than the allowed duration.

3. Audio Analysis

After a valid MP4 is accepted, the tool analyzes the audio to understand its loudness behavior. This matters because two videos can have similar peak levels but sound very different to a listener.

A file may peak close to the digital limit and still sound quiet if the average perceived loudness is low. LUFS analysis helps identify that type of problem more accurately than looking at peak volume alone.

4. LUFS Targeting

LUFS stands for Loudness Units relative to Full Scale. It is used to measure perceived loudness over time. LUFS targeting helps make audio feel more consistent across different listening environments.

This is different from a simple volume boost. A basic volume boost raises everything, including peaks, which can quickly cause clipping. LUFS targeting is a more controlled loudness approach.

5. True Peak Protection

True peak protection helps reduce the risk of clipping after encoding, uploading, or playback. This is important because platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook may re-encode uploaded MP4 files.

Leaving true peak headroom gives the audio a better chance of surviving platform processing without becoming harsh or distorted.

6. Preset Selection

Presets give users a practical starting point. Some presets are better for general social media, some are better for clean loudness, and some are safer for already compressed audio.

The best preset depends on the source audio. Speech-heavy videos, DJ mixes, podcast clips, music videos, and tutorials may need different loudness decisions.

7. Audio Processing

Once the preset is selected, LUFS Optimizer processes the audio and creates a new optimized MP4. The goal is to improve loudness and consistency while keeping the result clean and listenable.

The tool focuses on audio loudness. Video quality is preserved whenever possible, so creators do not have to re-edit or re-export the visual portion of the file.

8. Download and Test

After processing is complete, the optimized MP4 becomes available for download. The best practice is to test the new file before publishing it.

9. Temporary File Handling

Uploaded and processed files are temporary. Files older than approximately 24 hours are automatically removed from the server.

LUFS Optimizer can improve many quiet or inconsistent MP4 files, but it cannot fully repair audio that is already badly distorted, clipped, noisy, or poorly recorded.
